Immigration Relief for Victims of Trafficking: The T Visa

For victims of human trafficking, the trauma of their experience can be compounded by the fear of navigating the U.S. immigration system. Thankfully, there is a specific form of immigration relief available – the T visa. This visa provides a way for noncitizen victims of trafficking to remain in the United States and assist with the investigation or prosecution of trafficking crimes.

The T visa allows victims to live and work in the U.S. for up to four years, offering them much-needed security and stability. To qualify, applicants must show that they are a victim of trafficking, comply with reasonable requests from law enforcement, and demonstrate that returning to their home country would cause them extreme hardship.

One of the most important aspects of the T visa is that it can lead to permanent residency. After three years of holding the T visa, or when the investigation or prosecution of the trafficking case concludes (whichever comes first), victims can apply for a green card. This means that those who have suffered through such traumatic experiences can eventually secure long-term stability in the U.S., giving them the chance to truly start over.

At Rahimi Law Firm P.C., we know how tough this journey can be, and we’re here to offer you compassionate legal support for trafficking victims. We’ll be with you through every step of the process, from applying for the T visa to pursuing permanent residency.
